I held her reports in trembling hands, my heart with every word I read. From her bed, she gazed at me, feverish and expectant, desperate to hear she would be fine. I summoned every ounce of courage, clasped her frail hand, and whispered, “You’re better now than you’ve ever been since this ailment gripped you.” A faint smile broke across her face, fragile but hopeful. The nurse turned and walked away, she couldn't bear to witness my hopeless try.
